TASS, March 18. Damascus does not need the West’s assistance in the post-war reconstruction of Syria but demands that Western countries offset the damage caused by the US-led coalition’s activities in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement cited by the Syrian Arab News Agency.
“The crimes and atrocities committed by terrorist groups in Syria and those committed by the US-led illegal coalition especially in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, which amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, will ever remain a stain on the forehead of these false democracies, which pay no head to human life and pose a flagrant violation of international law and human rights law,” the agency quoted the statement as saying.
“Developments of the events, according to the source, confirmed that what Syria and some countries of the region have witnessed is the product of US-led Western conspiracy for going back to the colonial past in a new form, confiscating will of regional countries,” SANA added.
This came in response to a joint statement the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and France had issued on the eighth anniversary of the Syrian conflict on March 15. The four counties once again criticized Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and welcomed the activities of the Syrian opposition.
